Renato e Seus Blue Caps is a Brazilian rock band from Rio de Janeiro, formed in 1959 by Renato Barros. Originally known as “Bacaninhas do Rock da Piedade”, the founding lineup included Renato Barros, Paulo César Barros, Ed Wilson, Euclides de Paula, and Gelson Moraes. They began their career performing on radio stations and television programs such as Brotos no Treze. In 1962, the group released the album Twist on the Copacabana label. Following the departure of Ed Wilson in 1963, singer Erasmo Carlos had a brief tenure with the group. The band signed with CBS Records in 1964 and released the album Viva a juventude! in 1965, featuring the breakthrough hit “Menina linda”. Subsequent successful releases included Isto é Renato e seus Blue Caps in 1965, which featured versions of “Não te esquecerei” and “Até o fim”. The ensemble appeared in the 1966 film Rio, Verão & Amor and recorded regularly through the 1970s. Renato Barros died on July 28, 2020.
