Gilberto Alejandro Durán Díaz, born in El Paso, Cesar, Colombia, on February 9, 1919, and passed away on November 15, 1989, was a monumental figure in the Vallenato genre, known by nicknames such as El Negro Grande, Alejo, and El Rey Negro del Acordeón. Alejandro Durán's career began in earnest when he unearthed an old accordion, leading him to victory as the first King of the Vallenato at the inaugural Festival de la Leyenda Vallenata in 1968. His discography is vast, with notable releases including La ola del vallenato (1961), Canto a sabanas (1964), El rey del vallenato (1965), and Festival vallenato primer premio (1968), among others.
