Born on April 30th, 1962, in Poughkeepsie, New York, R&B singer/songwriter Thomas Pearce is better known by his stage name Tashan. Interested in music at a young age, he would miss school days to attend auditions in New York City. As a songwriter, his first big break came when he wrote and produced “Yours for a Night” for old-school rap duo Whodini’s 1983 debut album. Tashan then recorded with the Fat Boys on their 1984 debut album. In 1985, Tashan signed with Def Jam Records and released Chasin’ the Dream, his debut album, in 1986. His second album, On the Horizon (1989), featured three charting singles: “Think About You”, “Save the Family”, and “Black Man”. His third album, For the Sake of Love, was released in 1993 but it took another nine years before he released his next album, Life Goez On (2002). While not a huge commercial success, Tashan’s reputation as an exceptional R&B singer and songwriter is evident on each of his albums, including the 2002 compilation The Best of Tashan – A Retrospective: 1986-1993.
