七つ星 (Nanatsuboshi) was formed in late 1990 in Japan as a temporary J‑pop idol group comprising seven members from the former trios Rakutenshi and Lip's, joined by soloist Rumi Shishido. The group’s concept was a seasonal project, and its debut single, "リボン結びのWAKU WAKU" (21 November 1990), introduced the ensemble to the market. Shortly thereafter, the group released its self‑titled Christmas album 聖夜七つ星 (1 December 1990) and a follow‑up edition 聖夜七つ星+7 (1 December 1990), both issued under the same release date. These recordings were distributed through a major label partnership that enabled nationwide promotion during the holiday season. The group’s activity remained brief; the collective disbanded after the 1990 releases, and no further recordings or tours were undertaken. Despite the short lifespan, the single and album achieved moderate chart placement within the Japanese pop market, securing a place in the genre’s seasonal catalogues. The project is remembered as a concise example of the idol collaboration trend of the early 1990s, with the members subsequently returning to their individual careers. No post‑humous releases or awards were recorded following the group’s dissolution.
