Dropbears were an Australian rock band formed in Darlinghurst, Sydney, in 1981. The group initially consisted of Johnny Batchelor, Simon Rudlin, and Chris Toms. Prior to forming Dropbears, Batchelor and Rudlin had been jamming with Rod Brunel from The Singles, but the collaboration did not work well. As Dropbears, they released their first singles "Fun Loving" (1981) and "Lay Him Down" (1983), both of which reached Number 1 on the Sydney Indie charts. The following year, the band signed to WEA Records and continued releasing successful singles. Their studio album, Untitled (1984), was released under WEA Records. In 2011, Warner Music Australia released The Essential Dropbears, a compilation featuring ten tracks including the chart hits "Shall We Go" (1984) and "In Your Eyes" (1985). The band disbanded in 1987.
