Nilton César, born on June 27, 1939, in Ituiutaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil, was a Brazilian romantic singer closely associated with the Jovem Guarda-era circuit and the broader “brega” tradition. He began releasing records in the early 1960s, issuing a run of LPs for Continental before moving into a streak on RCA Victor, with albums including Nilton César I (1964), Com Alma e Coração (1965), A Volta do Professor (1966), and Dois Num Só Coração (1968). César scored his signature hit with "Férias na Índia" (1969), a song that sold over 500,000 copies and generated multiple gold records. Through the 1970s and early 1980s, he kept a steady album cadence with titles like Nilton César V (1971) and Amor... Amor... Amor... (1973), while remaining a familiar presence on major Brazilian TV, including Programa Silvio Santos and Jovem Guarda. His discography continued across changing labels and markets into the 2000s with O Homem Também Chora (2003) and No Limite da Paixão (2004). César died on January 28, 2026, in São Paulo.
