Halo James was a British pop group formed in London in 1988. The band consisted of session vocalist Christian James, guitarist and songwriter Ray St. John, formerly of Latin soul band Pride, and keyboardist Neil Palmer. Halo James began as a side-project for St. John's songwriting career after he met James in the studio. The group was signed to Epic Records by Muff Winwood in August 1988. Halo James released their debut mini-album Could Have Told You So in 1989, which included the hit single "Could Have Told You So". This song became a major success across Europe and reached number 6 on the UK Singles Chart in early 1990. Their sole full-length album, Witness, was released later that year and peaked at number 18 on the UK Albums Chart, selling over 100,000 copies in its first year. Despite their initial success, Halo James disbanded in 1991 due to structural changes within Epic Records following its takeover by Sony. After the group's dissolution, Christian James continued as a session vocalist for a few years before becoming a freelance writer. Ray St. John remained active as a songwriter, contributing hits for artists like Snoop Dogg and Gabrielle.
