Lucienne Canetti, known professionally as Lucienne Vernay, was born on December 12, 1919, in Alger. She began her musical education at the Conservatoire de Musique d'Alger and started her career as a singer after meeting Jacques Canetti in 1943. She joined Radio France's troupe in Algeria, where Canetti was directing. In 1947, Vernay married Canetti and moved to Paris, where they opened the Théâtre des Trois Baudets. Throughout the 1950s, Vernay released several albums of children's songs, including Rondes et Chansons de France, which won awards such as the Grand Prix du Disque and Prix de l’Académie Charles-Cros. In 1952, she took a hiatus from singing to focus on her family but returned in 1964 to found Éditions Majestic with Canetti. Vernay composed music for works by Boris Vian and René Fallet. She died on March 23, 1981.
