Born on February 3, 1942 in Japan, Kiyoshi Sugimoto is known as one of the finest jazz guitarists in the country. From jazz fusion to citypop, his guitar playing has been used to great effect by the Terumasa Hino Quintet, Allan Praskin Quartet, The Rock Invaders, Motohiko Hino & His Friends, Kiyoshi Sugimoto Sextet, and drummer Akira Ishikawa’s band The Count Buffalos. As a sideman, he has appeared on classic albums such as Akira Ishikawa’s Back to Rhythm (1975), Hiromasa Suzuki’s High-Flying (1976), Nanako’s Funny Walkin' (1977) and Taeko Ohnuki’s Mignonne (1985). His solo catalog includes the albums Guitar Method (1972), Our Time (1975), L.A. Master (1978), and One More (1981).
