Guðrið Hansdóttir, born October 6, 1980, in Argir, is a Faroese pop, folk, and electropop singer, songwriter, and composer. The daughter of guitarist Hans Carl Hansen, Hansdóttir began playing guitar at age 14. Hansdóttir released the debut album Love is Dead in 2007 and won the Planet Award for Best Female Singer. Her second album, The Sky is Opening (2009), was awarded Album of the Year. Following Beyond the Grey (2011), Hansdóttir moved to Reykjavík and formed the duo Byrta with Janus Rasmussen, releasing the album BYRTA in 2013. Hansdóttir’s solo discography includes the EP Taking Ship (2014), featuring poems by Heinrich Heine, and the albums Painted Fire (2016) and Gult myrkur (2022). Hansdóttir performed at festivals including SXSW, Iceland Airwaves, and the G! Festival. In 2023, Hansdóttir received the Pan-Arcticvision prize.
