Átoa is a quartet from Évora, Portugal, comprised of four close friends: Guilherme (lead vocals, guitar, piano, ukulele), João (guitar, piano, vocals), Rodrigo (drums, percussion, vocals, piano), and Mário (bass, guitar), who originally met at school and refined their musical chemistry at the Conservatório Eborae Música. Guided by their shared passion, the group began writing collaboratively in 2014 before recording early tracks like “Falar a Dois” and “A Distância” in the rehearsal room and launching them on YouTube and the Tradiio platform, where their success led to a record deal with Universal. Their debut album Idade dos Inquietos (2015) introduced bright, Portuguese-language pop marked by singles “Falar a Dois” and “Distância.” In the following years, they built on that foundation with tracks such as “A Cada Passo” (2016), “Já Não” (2017), and “Voltavas” (2018), culminating in their mature sophomore album Sem Medos (2019) featuring introspective tracks like “Hoje,” “Sem Ti,” and collaborations with Valas (“O Nosso Tempo”) and LUA (“Paraquedas”). Between 2024 and 2025 they released several standalone singles—“Cinco e Meia,” “Ritinha,” “Romance de Balcão” (with Grupo Académico Seistetos), “Não Durmo Bem,” and “Tu na Tua” with Luis Trigacheiro and Buba Espinho, which peaked at number 24 on the Portuguese charts.
