Ethel Azama, born on August 28, 1934, in Honolulu, Hawaii, was an American singer of Okinawan ancestry. She began her career in 1955 as an emcee at the Oasis nightclub in Honolulu and started performing as a standards singer in U.S. military clubs on Oahu in 1956. Azama's debut album Exotic Dreams was released in 1958 under Liberty Records, featuring standards such as "Speak Low" and "Autumn Leaves". Her second album, Cool Heat, followed in 1960. From 1959 to 1960, she performed in nightclubs across major U.S. cities and appeared on the national network variety special Music on Ice in May 1960. In the late 1960s, Azama settled permanently in Honolulu, where she continued to perform. She passed away suddenly from a cerebral aneurysm on March 7, 1984, at the age of 49. Her music was posthumously recognized with the release of the album Exotic Dreamers in May 2010.
