Akira Kushida, born on October 17, 1946, is a legendary Japanese singer known for his powerful voice and iconic work in anime and tokusatsu theme songs. He made his debut in 1969 with the single "Karappo no Seishun" and soon joined NHK’s Stage 101 as part of the music group Young 101. His career took a pivotal turn in 1981 when composer Chumei Watanabe invited him to sing the opening for the tokusatsu series Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan. This led to a prolific career performing theme songs for series like Space Sheriff Gavan, Kinnikuman, and many more. Kushida’s deep, soulful vocals became synonymous with heroism and energy, especially through his work in anime and commercials. One of his most memorable commercial songs, for Fuji Safari Park, has been on air for over 30 years. In the 2000s, he gained international attention, performing at anime conventions around the world and forming the band SHAFT in 2006. In 2010, he voiced the OOO Driver in Kamen Rider OOO, marking his first voice acting role in tokusatsu. His high-energy song "Gatsu Gatsu!!"(2011) further highlights his enduring presence in the genre.
