Fritz Neumeyer was born on July 2, 1900, in Saarbrücken, Germany. He began his musical studies in Cologne in 1919, focusing on music theory and piano. Neumeyer's career took a significant turn when he met Curt Sachs in 1928, which sparked his interest in historical instruments and performance practices. He embarked on a long career as a harpsichordist, founding the Saarbrücker Association for Early Music in 1933. Neumeyer held professorships at the Berlin Academy of Music from 1939 to 1944 and later at the Freiburg Academy of Music. His contributions to historical performance practices are well-documented through numerous recordings, including his work with the Collegium Terpsichore ensemble in 1960. He passed away on January 16, 1983.
