Trio Rio is a German pop band that was founded in Cologne in 1983. The members are Peter Fessler (vocals), Serge Maillard (vocals, later), Oliver Heuss (keyboards), Cläusel Quitschau (bass), Pablo Escayola (percussion) and Klaus Mages (drums). Their music combines Latin dance, Eurodisco and pop, characterized by South American rhythms and jazzy elements. The band was formed when Peter Fessler started out with four friends from the Cologne University of Music. Initially, Trio Rio mainly played jazz standards with Latin American influences, but the concept later changed to more commercial Latin rock. In 1986, they achieved their greatest success with the single "New York - Rio - Tokyo". The song became their trademark. The debut album Trio Rio followed in the same year, reaching number 23 in the German album charts. 1987 sees the release of the second album Voodoo Nights, with the single "Voulez Voulez Vous". In 1990, the band released the album Who Dat, Mon? and disbanded shortly afterwards. After the end of Trio Rio, Peter Fessler starts a solo career with jazz and pop elements, Oliver Heuss composes film music, Klaus Mages later continues to play with the Rainbirds. Bassist Cläusel Quitschau dies on September 27, 2016.
