Brighter Side of Darkness was an American soul musical group formed in 1971 at Calumet High School in Chicago, Illinois. The group consisted of lead singers Ralph Eskridge and Darryl Lamont, along with Randolph Murph and Larry Washington. Their breakthrough came in December 1972 with the release of their hit single "Love Jones", which reached Number 16 on the US Hot 100 chart and Number 3 on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The song was certified gold by the RIAA on February 9, 1973. Building on this success, Brighter Side of Darkness released their album Love Jones in 1973. Their second single, "I Owe You Love", did not achieve the same level of success, and the group disbanded in 1974."Love Jones" was later covered by various artists including The Imaginations in 1975, Doctor Ice of UTFO featuring Full Force and Cheryl Pepsii Riley. It was also parodied as "Basketball Jones" by Cheech and Chong and Paul Gruwell in 1973, reaching Number 15 on the Hot 100 chart.
