Bernd Das Brot, is a German fictional character who gained prominence as a puppet and television icon. Bernd debuted on the German children's television channel KiKA in 2000. Created by Norman Cöster and Tommy Krappweis at Bumm Film in Munich, Bernd was brought to life through the puppeteering skills of Jörg Teichgraeber. He quickly became known for his chronic depression and distinctive appearance, characterized by his small, rectangular shape and deep, gloomy baritone voice. Rockt Das Brot, Bernd Das Brot's first album, was released in 2003. The character gained a cult following among adult television viewers when his broadcasts were played on loop during late-night hours from 9pm to 6am. Bernd earned the Adolf-Grimme-Preis in 2004 solidifying his status as a pop cultural icon. Throughout his career, Bernd interacted with co-main characters Chili Das Schaf and Briegel Der Busch, engaging in various pastiche shows that included parodies of popular genres such as Westerns, fairy tales, and Star Trek.
