Axemen, a New Zealand indie rock band formed in 1983, emerged from the music scenes of Christchurch and Dunedin. The group's founding members included Bob Brannigan, Little Stevie McCabe, and Stu Kawowski.The band released their debut double LP Three Virgins :: Three Versions:: Three Visions in 1985 through Flying Nun Records. In 1986, they released the album Derry Legend. Axemen's protest album Big Cheap Motel, originally a cassette release packaged as a milk drink, was re-released on vinyl by Siltbreeze in February 2009. The band toured the United States in October and November 2009, opening for Times New Viking.
