Peter Robert Auty, born on November 4, 1969 in England, is a British operatic tenor who began his musical journey as a choirboy at St Paul's Cathedral. At the age of 13, Auty gained significant recognition for singing "Walking in the Air", the theme song from the animated film The Snowman, although his name was initially omitted from the credits until the film's remastering in 2002. Auty continued his vocal training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama under Peter Alexander Wilson, alongside studying with the British Youth Opera. His professional stage debut came in 1998 with Opera North, where he performed various roles including Rodolfo in La bohème during the 2001-02 season and Don José in Carmen in 2011. At Covent Garden, Auty took on notable roles such as the Major-Domo to the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Michelis in The Greek Passion, and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor. He also performed at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, and English National Opera. Auty's international performances include roles in Frankfurt and Rouen, as well as concerts with orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Flemish Philharmonic. His discography includes notable works like Dvořák: Stabat Mater Op. 58 (2012) and Elgar: The Dream of Gerontius (2013).
