Born Sonia Dronnier in Lorient (Morbihan) on October 7, 1960, singer Viktor Lazlo is best known for her adaptation of "Cry Me a River" under the title "Pleurer des rivières". She grew up in Brittany and then in Belgium with her parents of Martinique and Grenada origins, and studied art history before turning to music and modeling. She adopted the stage name Viktor Lazlo, in reference to the character in the film Casablanca (1942), and made a name for herself in 1985 with the album She, featuring the hits "Pleurer des rivières" and "Canoë rose": Boris Bergman, Alain Chamfort, Maxime Le Forestier, Bernard Lavilliers and Serge Gainsbourg ("Amour puissance six") followed behind the singer with her sensual soul-jazz voice. After the international success of the album Breathless (1987), a year in which she also presented the Eurovision Song Contest in Brussels, Viktor Lazlo led a dual career on the big and small screens(Soeur Thérèse.com, La Crim', Navarro...) and in song, with the themed albums Verso (1996), Amour(s) (2002), Loin de Paname (2002), Saga (2004) and Begin the Biguine (2007). After the novel La Femme qui pleure (The Woman Who Cried ), about the death of his partner Filip Nikolic (2B3), Viktor Lazlo set about recounting the life of Billie Holiday in a novelized book, then on record and on stage under the title My Name Is Billie Holiday (2012). His musical style blends sophisticated pop, jazz, bossa nova and Caribbean influences, carried by a deep, sensual voice. Dividing her time between writing and singing, she went on to release the albums Woman (2017) and Suds (2021).
