Luis Ortiz, born 26 December 1949 in San Juan, known as “Perico”, is a Puerto Rican salsa musician, composer, and producer. He studied at the Escuela Libre de Música Puerto Rico and the Conservatory of Music of Puerto Rico, later earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Puerto Rico. In 1967, Ortiz performed as a guest soloist with the Puerto Rican Symphony Orchestra. Moving to New York City in 1970, he established a reputation performing with Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaría, and the Fania All Stars. In 1971, Ortiz formed his own orchestra and received the “Diplo” award for The Best Trumpet Player of the Year. He also received an ACE Award in 1981. His recording career included the albums Super Salsa (1978), El Astro (1981), and Sigo Entre Amigos (2021). Ortiz founded Dialen Promotions in 1988 and Luis "Perico" Ortiz Productions in 1993. He was appointed a professor at the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico.
