Brendan O'Dowda, born on October 1, 1925, in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, was an Irish tenor known for popularizing the songs of Percy French. His early vocal promise led him to perform at charity events under Dr. Vincent O'Brien's guidance. In the 1950s, he moved to England and formed The Four Ramblers with Val Doonican. O'Dowda's solo career took off on BBC Radio. His debut album, Emerald and Tartan, included two songs by Percy French, leading to his 1958 album The Immortal Percy French. He created a one-man show about Percy French and published a biography of him in 1981 titled The World of Percy French. O'Dowda toured the US and appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show. He died on February 22, 2002.
