In 1987, Charly (Calogero Maurici), Jacky (Gioacchino Maurici), Francis (Francis Maggiulli) and Fred Mattia (who soon left the group) got together to form Les Charts. With the help of France Gall and producer Philippe Gaillard, the group put together their first compositions for a debut album, L'Océan Sans Fond, supported in 1989 by the single "Je M'envole". Their pop rock, driven by bass, synthesizers and drums, and highlighted by the voice of Charly (who later went solo under his own name Calogero), won over audiences and conquered the charts. The group grew and followed up with a second album, Notre Monde À Nous, which sold 180,000 copies and reached number 13 in the Top 50 with the song "Aime-Moi Encore". While the group grew in size and productivity, with three albums between 1994 and 1997(Hannibal, Acte 1 and Changer), the desire of each to pursue solo careers led to the break-up of Les Charts in 1998. Calogero's debut album Au Milieu Des Autres, released the following year in 1999, was a real springboard for their personal careers, and set the seal on the evolution of the group, whose members now reunite from time to time on compositions.
