Darek "Oles" Oleszkiewicz, born February 20, 1963, in Wrocław, Poland, is a jazz bassist, composer, arranger, and educator. He moved to Los Angeles in 1987 or 1988 and attended California Institute of the Arts on a full scholarship, where he was mentored by Charlie Haden. In 1993, Oleszkiewicz co-founded the Los Angeles Jazz Quartet, which recorded for Naxos Records and Not Two Records. His debut album as a leader, Like a Dream, was released in 2004. He has collaborated on notable albums such as Storybook (2006) with Larry Koonse and Standards 2: Movie Music (2010) with Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, and Alan Pasqua. Oleszkiewicz has been a faculty member at California Institute of the Arts and the University of Southern California.
