Orchestra Națională Radio is a Romanian symphony orchestra founded in 1928 in Bucharest by composer Mihail Jora. Originally established as a studio ensemble for the Romanian Broadcasting Society, it gave its first public concert in 1932. Historically, the orchestra utilized multiple simultaneous principal conductors, including Mihail Jora and Theodor Rogalski. Iosif Conta served as a permanent conductor from 1954 until 1982, significantly expanding the ensemble's international profile. Under current principal conductor Tiberiu Soare, the orchestra promotes national compositions, having premiered works such as Pascal Bentoiu’s Symphony No. 2 and Marcel Mihalovici’s Symphony No. 5. The ensemble has collaborated with prestigious soloists including Plácido Domingo, Luciano Pavarotti, Radu Lupu, and Martha Argerich. Recognized with the Charles Cros and Koussevitzky awards, the orchestra remains central to Romania's cultural heritage by recording national repertoire for the Golden Sound Archive.
