Michael James Hashim (born April 9, 1956) is an American modern and mainstream jazz alto and soprano saxophonist and composer from Geneva, New York. Hashim formed a trio at Hobart College in 1973 and worked with Dave Holland and Lee Konitz at the Creative Musicians' Workshop in 1974. He toured with Muddy Waters in 1976 and led the Widespread Depression Orchestra between 1976 and 1992. Hashim formed a quartet in 1979 and released the album Peacocks in 1983. His discography includes the albums Lotus Blossom (1990), A Blue Streak (1991), and Multicoloured Blue (1999). In 1992, Hashim performed in the first American jazz band to tour China since 1949. He joined The Microscopic Septet in 2007 and composed for film, television, and dance.
