Ganymed, an Austrian band specializing in futuristic disco music and synth-pop, was formed in the 1970s. The group was founded by Gerry Edmond, who began his musical career in 1966 with The Events, a young band from Austria. In 1969, after The Events disbanded, Edmond started his professional music career in Germany alongside Kurt Hauenstein. Returning to Vienna in 1977, Edmond created Ganymed by collaborating with other musicians and utilizing his experience as a studio technician. Ganymed's breakthrough came in 1978 with the release of "It Takes Me Higher", which reached number 5 on the Austrian charts for four weeks. The band's debut album Takes You Higher peaked at number 16 in Austria, remaining on the charts for twelve weeks. That same year, their single "Saturn" also charted in Austria, reaching number 19. In 1980, Ganymed released two more notable singles: "Money Is Addiction (Of This Crazy World)", which reached number 17 in Austria, and "Bring Your Love to Me". The band's subsequent albums included Future World (1979) and Dimension No. 3 (1980). Ganymed's music was characterized by its space-themed lyrics and futuristic sounds, earning them a place in the space disco subgenre. In their final concerts of 1981, Falco performed as the band's bassist. The group disbanded in 1983.
