Gilbert Rowland is a Scottish harpsichordist born in 1946 in Glasgow. He studied at the Royal College of Music under Millicent Silver and made his debut as a student at Fenton House. Rowland performed on a French-style harpsichord built in the manner of Pascal Taskin. In 1975, he established Keyboard Records to record the 555 harpsichord sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti. His discography included the harpsichord works of Jean-Philippe Rameau and the complete sonatas of Antonio Soler. He also recorded the 12 Suites (1714) of Johann Mattheson for labels including Nimbus, Naxos, and Divine Art Records. Rowland performed and recorded with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. His performances were broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Capital Radio, and PBS affiliated stations. Rowland's father served as the second in command to the Viceroy of India.
