Ralph Barendse (born 6 April 1977 in the Netherlands) is a Dutch electronic music producer who first appeared on the scene under the alias Alpha Breed with the 1999 single "Beyond the Moon". His breakthrough came in 2001 when the track "Massive" attracted the attention of Tiësto and was released on the Black Hole Records sublabel In Trance We Trust; the single later earned the title Tune of the Week on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance radio show. In 2002 Barendse launched the project Midway, releasing the successful single "Monkey Forest" and subsequently collaborating with artists such as Dario G, Misja Helsloot and Solarstone. He co‑founded the duo First State in 2005, producing the single "First State" and touring with Tiësto before departing the project in 2009 to focus on his solo career. His debut solo album Equator was issued in 2010, followed by a series of singles-including "Bullfrog", "Delphi" and "Icarus"-through 2013, cementing his position within the trance genre.
