Max Q is a short-lived Australian band formed by INXS singer Michael Hutchence. In the wake of the international success of INXS's 1987 album Kick, Hutchence decided to take a break and return to his roots, forming Max Q with Australian musicians with whom he had worked on the title track of the Dogs in Space soundtrack: producer Ollie Olsen, guitarist Michael Sheridan and drummer John Murphy. Other contributors join the sessions on Max Q's only album (1989), seen at the time as a curiosity in the zeitgeist, when pop-rock songs flirt with synthetic production. Rated No. 13 in Australia and certified gold, it spawned the dance hit "Ways of the World" (No. 8) and two other singles of lesser impact, "Sometimes" (No. 31) and "Monday Night by Satellite" (No. 107). Michael Hutchence died on November 22, 1997, John Murphy on October 11, 2015 and Ollie Olsen on October 16, 2024.
