Tommy Steiner (born Karl-Heinz Steiner on October 7, 1962 in Aalen) is a German pop singer, composer, lyricist, music producer and publisher. He grew up in the Brastelburg district of Aalen in a musical family. His mother Lore Steiner is known regionally as the "Yodeler from Härtsfeld". As a child, Tommy Steiner learned to play the guitar, drums and diatonic accordion. At the age of 15, he became a member of the dance band Diamonds Original. After leaving school, he did his military service and began studying business administration and law. At the same time, he enters a singing competition - and wins. Producer Jürgen Kramer records the single "Die Fischer von San Juan" with him, which climbs to number 13 in the German charts in 1983. Further hits follow: "Das Märchen von Rhodos" (1983), "Das ewige Feuer" (1984), "Wenn dein Herz dir nicht sagt" (1984), "Parlez-vous francais" (1987) and "So schön wird's nie wieder sein" (1987). All singles are released on the Teldec label. Tommy Steiner regularly appears on the ZDF hit parade and the program Die goldene Eins. In 1984 he receives the Golden Tuning Fork and the Golden Antenna of the Belgian Broadcasting Corporation (BRF). In 1988, Tommy Steiner takes part in the German preliminary round of the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Insel im Wind", written by Hanne Haller and Ramona Leiß. In the same year, he sings the German theme song for the Australian television series Neighbors. At the beginning of the 1990s, he ventured into acting: in 1993, he appeared in the RTL comedy Hochwürden erbt das Paradies directed by Otto Retzer alongside Hans Clarin, Jochen Busse and Dagmar Koller. This was followed by the studio albums Tommy Steiner (1983), Frei sein für die Träume (1984), Sommerwind (1985), Wie neu geboren (1986), Schön, dass du bei mir bist (1988), Tommy Steiner (1989), Sehnsucht und Abenteuer (1991), Zeit für Gefühle (1993), Ganz nah (1997), Ich bin da (2000), Komm in meine Arme (2002), Liebesrausch (2003), Wilde Jahre (2004) and Herzbeben (2008).
