American pop singer Paul Engemann charted a handful of songs during the 1970s and 1980s, both as a solo artist and bandleader. He was born in California on October 15, 1957, and raised by a Mormon family whose patriarch, Karl Engemann, was the A&R Vice President of Capitol Records. Initially recording under the name "Christopher Paul," Paul Engemann launched his singing career with 1975's "For Your Love," with climbed to Number 91 in America and featured guest vocals from his sister, Shawn. He began collaborating with Giorgio Moroder during the following decade and sang "Scarface (Push It to the Limit)" on the Golden Globe-nominated Scarface soundtrack, which was composed by Giorgio Moroder and released worldwide in 1983. One year later, the pair teamed up once again for the European hit "Reach Out," which reached Number 1 in Germany and Number 2 in Switzerland. "Reach Out" also enjoyed a degree of popularity in America as the theme song for the 1984 Olympic Games. While continuing to release solo material throughout the remainder of the 1980s, Paul Engemann also formed the pop band Device, whose 1986 single "Hanging on a Heart Attack" peaked at Number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100. Two years later, he joined the synth-pop group Animotion and appeared on the band's self-titled record in 1989. "Room to Move," the record's lead single, charted at Number 9 in America. Even so, the band broke up in 1990. Paul Engemann effectively retired from the music business after Animotion's dissolution, although he occasionally released one-off singles like 2000's "NeverEnding Story" during the following decades.
