Exilia, an Italian nu metal band from Milan, was formed in 1998 when vocalist Masha Mysmane and guitarist Elioalien met at a music store. The band's name, chosen by Mysmane, translates to "to release energy" in Latin, reflecting the power and immediacy she envisioned for their music. Exilia released their debut album Rightside Up in 2000, followed by the EP "Underdog" in September 2003. In 2004, they gained significant traction with the release of the single "Stop Playing God", which was accompanied by a music video filmed in Cologne, Germany. Their album Unleashed was released on May 24th of that year and featured collaborations with notable artists such as the lead singer of In Extremo. Exilia's third album, Can't Break Me Down, reached number 59 on the German charts in 2005, with its title track also charting at number 64. The song was used as the theme for the German film Der Clown. Their subsequent albums include Nobody Excluded (2006), which featured protest songs like "No Colours" and "Kill Me", and My Own Army (2009), produced by Dave Chavarri and Mysmane. The band's 2012 album, Decode, included collaborations with Stephan Hinz of H-Blockx on the track "Over the Edge". Exilia has toured extensively, sharing the stage with bands such as Otep, Rammstein, and Pink. They returned with Heroes and Dust in April 2023.
