Dante Luca Pieretti, known professionally as Gian Pieretti, was born on May 12, 1940, in Ponte Buggianese, Italy. He began his music career as a singer-songwriter and composer. In 1963, under the name Perry, he released his first single "Perduto Amor". The following year, adopting the stage name Gian Pieretti, he released "Ciao (Mai Più La Vedrò)" and started performing with I Grifoni. His breakthrough came in 1966 with "Il vento dell'est", co-written with Ricky Gianco. In 1967, Pieretti participated in the Sanremo Music Festival with "Pietre" and released his debut album Se vuoi un consiglio. Notable works include Il viaggio celeste di Gian Pieretti (1969) and Il vestito rosa del mio amico Piero (1973). After a period of semi-retirement, he returned with Don Chisciotte in 1989.
