Dylan van der Schyff, born in 1970 in Johannesburg, is a Canadian jazz drummer. He grew up in Canada and studied at the universities of Victoria and Montreal. Van der Schyff’s early career included work with Ron Samworth’s group Talking Pictures, where he met his future wife, cellist Peggy Lee. The couple settled in Vancouver in the early 1990s, where he became a prominent figure in the city’s improvisational music scene. He has performed regularly at the Du Maurier International Jazz Festival and collaborated with musicians such as George Lewis, François Houle, Louis Sclavis, Eyvind Kang, and Myra Melford. He has recorded in various settings, including a trio with Michael Moore and Achim Kaufmann, a duo with John Butcher, and projects with Peggy Lee, and has also taught jazz at the Banff Centre.
