Konrad Xaver Ruhland, born on February 19, 1932, in Landau an der Isar, Germany, was a conductor and musicologist. He sang as a choirboy at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Passau and studied musicology in Munich. In 1956, inspired by the Pro Musica Antiqua ensemble, he founded Capella Antiqua München, focusing on Renaissance and early Baroque music. From 1968 to 1991, Ruhland taught at St. Gotthard Gymnasium in Niederalteich. He established the Niederaltaicher Scholars in 1976, a concert choir dedicated to Gregorian chant. Ruhland edited hundreds of works by South German composers and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, First Class in 2004. Ruhland passed away on March 14, 2010, in Deggendorf.
