Isla Cameron (born March 5, 1927) was a British folk singer and actress from Blairgowrie, Scotland. Raised in Newcastle upon Tyne, Cameron joined the Theatre Workshop in 1945 as the lead singer-narrator for the production Johnny Noble. She began her recording career in 1951 with an unaccompanied rendition of “The Fair Flower of Northumberland” on His Master’s Voice. Cameron collaborated with folklorists Alan Lomax and Ewan MacColl, contributing to the Radio Ballads series. Her discography included the albums Through Bushes and Briars (1956), Still I Love Him (1958), and Isla Cameron (1966). She appeared in films such as Room at the Top (1959) and The Innocents (1961), for which she performed “Oh, Willow Waly”. From 1966, Cameron focused on acting, appearing in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1969), before becoming a film researcher in 1972. Cameron died in London on April 3, 1980. Releases after her death included the archival recording Song of a Road (1999).
