Seafood, a UK alternative rock group formed in London in 1996, featured chief songwriter David Line on vocals and guitar, drummer Caroline Banks, and guitarist Kevin Penney, with early bassist Kevin Hendrick departing after the Paper Crown King sessions. The band’s breakthrough came with the 1997 single "Scorch Comfort" on Fierce Panda Records, followed by "Psychic Rainy Nights" and "Porchlight", which established their noisy‑melodic style. In 2000 the debut album Surviving the Quiet was released, producing singles such as "Easy Path" and "This Is Not An Exit"; the record showcased orchestral elements and a 10‑minute noise track. The follow‑up When Do We Start Fighting… appeared in 2001 on Infectious Records, featuring guest appearances by Mary Lorson and Scott McCloud, and spawned singles "Cloaking" and "Western Battle". After extensive touring with acts like Dashboard Confessional and Jimmy Eat World, the band released As The Cry Flows and Paper Crown King in 2004 and 2006 respectively, the latter issued through Cooking Vinyl. Health issues limited performances, and in 2009 Seafood announced their dissolution; members continued in side projects. The group left a legacy of underground acclaim, with "Signal Sparks" and "I Will Talk" among their most cited tracks.
