Born on August 19, 1986 in Singapore, actor and singer Desmond Tan has earned an impressive number of awards and accolades over the years, including the Star Award for Best Actor for his performance in 2017's When Duty Calls. He made his television debut in 2008 with Battle of Ball Love before scoring his breakthrough role as rickshaw driver Luo Xiaoxiao in A Song to Remember, for which he won his first gong, the Rocket Award, at the 2012 Star Awards. He was also praised for his role in 2012 TV series Star State Night, winning the Leap of the Year Award at the 2012 Red Star Awards. 2014 saw him make his big screen debut in 1400, playing the role of Rain, and landing a second film role four years later in The Big Day 简单的婚礼. An entertainer of many talents, Desmond Tan has also carved out a career as a Mandopop singer, notching up a series of compilation albums – beginning with MediaCorp Music Lunar New Year Album 15 in 2015 and recently releasing MediaCorp Music Lunar New Year Album 21 in 2021 – as well as achieving acclaim for his contribution to the When Duty Calls soundtrack in 2017.
