Alan Munde, born November 4, 1946, in Norman, Oklahoma, is an American five-string banjo player and bluegrass musician. He learned to play the banjo from Ed Shelton and began his career performing amateur gigs around Oklahoma. In 1965, Munde formed The Stone Mountain Boys. After moving to Kentucky in 1969, he joined Poor Richard's Almanac with Wayne Stewart and Sam Bush. Munde then played with Jimmy Martin's Sunny Mountain Boys from October 1969 to October 1971. In 1972, he became a member of the Flying Burrito Brothers and later formed Country Gazette with Byron Berline, Kenny Wertz, and Roger Bush. The group released several albums, including Traitor in our Midst in 1972 and Out to Lunch in 1976. Munde remained a central figure in Country Gazette for over twenty years. He was inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame in 2024.
