John Lee Bischoff is an American composer, performer, teacher, and grassroots activist. After earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts in 1971 and his Master of Fine Arts from Mills College in 1973, he became active in the San Francisco Bay Area experimental music scene. He co-founded the League of Automatic Music Composers in 1978, considered the world’s first computer network band, and was also a founding member of the network band The Hub, performing and recording with them from 1985 to 1996. Bischoff has performed internationally at festivals such as New Music America, Festival d’Automne (Paris), Fylkingen (Stockholm), and Akademie der Kunst (Berlin). He received a Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grants to Artists Award in 1999.
