Apani Nicole Smith, known professionally as Apani B. Fly, was born on September 17, 1974, in the United States and is a hip-hop emcee. In 1996, she released her first 12-inch single "Estragen" independently, followed by guest appearances on projects with Organized Konfusion, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Nujabes, and MF Doom. Her debut full-length album Rhyme-Related, as a member of Polyrhythm Addicts, was released in 1999. Apani B. Fly opened for acts such as Fugees and Brand Nubian. She remained active in the NYC underground scene with frequent performances at venues like S.O.B.'s, Lyricist Lounge, and the Nuyorican Poet's Cafe. Her notable singles include "Strive" (2000) and "Laws" (2003). Apani B. Fly released her second album Story 2 Tell in 2004.
