William Barry Douglas, also known as Barry Douglas, born on April 23, 1960, in Belfast, Northern Ireland, is a classical pianist and conductor. He studied piano, cello, clarinet, and organ in Belfast, later receiving lessons from Felicitas LeWinter, John Barstow, Maria Curcio, and Yevgeny Malinin. Douglas won the Bronze Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1985 and the gold medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1986. His debut album was a recording of Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (1987). He founded Camerata Ireland in 1998 and serves as its Artistic Director, also directing cycles of complete Beethoven symphonies. Douglas was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2002 and Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 2021 for his contributions to music and community relations in Northern Ireland.
