Joe "Guitar" Hughes, born Maurice Hughes on September 29, 1937 in Houston, Texas, was an American blues guitarist. Inspired by musicians like Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown and Johnny "Guitar" Watson, Hughes began his career with the Dukes of Rhythm in the 1950s alongside Johnny Copeland. In the 1960s, he worked with Little Richard and Bobby Bland's band. Hughes' first album, Texas Guitar Master, was released on Double Trouble Records in 1986. He toured extensively in Europe starting in the 1980s and released several notable albums including If You Want to See the Blues (1989) and Live at Vredenburg (1993). Hughes passed away from a heart attack on May 20, 2003.
