Saskia Laroo, born July 31, 1959 in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is a Dutch jazz musician. She started taking general music lessons at the age of 7 and later joined a local fanfare orchestra. In high school, she switched to trumpet and began learning jazz improvisation. Laroo made her first recordings in 1982 and played a solo on "Don't you leave me Baby" for Billy Preston’s album You Can't Keep A Good Man Down (1986). She founded Laroo Records in 1994 and released her first CD album It's Like Jazz, which was co-produced by Rob Gaasterland. This album, released in more than 15 countries, marked the beginning of her international career. Laroo toured extensively with various formations, including the Saskia Laroo Band and Jazzkia, performing at festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival (2006 and 2007). She received the Montreux Jazz Award in 2007.
