Christopher Dooks, born in 1971 in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom, is a Scotland-based artist working primarily in photography, film, and audio-art. He studied sound design and film at Cleveland College of Art and Design and film and video art at Edinburgh College of Art. His degree film, The Sound of Taransay, was screened by ITV in 1994, launching a brief television career that included directing work for programs such as The South Bank Show. In 1998, Dooks was diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, which ended his television work. He subsequently focused on audio-visual art, developing a creative approach he calls Idioholism and earning a PhD at the University of the West of Scotland. Dooks has released multiple electronica and folktronica albums for labels including Bip-Hop, Highpoint Lowlife, and Benbecula Records, and has also produced works under the moniker Bovine Life.
