La musique, c’est la vie. Tant qu’elle joue, je suis là.
Muax is a Belgian musician based in Cologne. His musical voice is open and unbounded – jazzy, experimental, tinged with electronic textures, sometimes poppy or rocky, but always led by intuition. As a trumpet player with a love for improvisation and a keen ear for moods and sonic imagery, he creates music that is both playful and profound.
Often, a piece begins with just a single tone, a feeling, or a mental image. Sometimes humorous and cheeky, other times serious or melancholic – Muax embraces the freedom of not being pinned down. His influences range from Ibrahim Maalouf and Chet Baker to Woody Shaw, but also include memories, city sounds, or fleeting moments of inspiration.
His musical journey started in the 1980s as a drummer and later took an unexpected detour through the offbeat web show “Muax Enrico” in the 2000s. In recent years, the trumpet has taken center stage, especially in albums like Trouble (2023), The Dictator Is Coming (2024), and Missing You (2025), where he explores the expressive range of the instrument – between melody and noise, structure and freedom.
Muax performs also live with the Cologne-based improvisation collective Anonyme Gesellschaft and joins the French chanson duo Toi et moi for selected concerts – bringing his trumpet into a warm and rhythmic world of French lyrics and acoustic sound.
His motto: Do something, then something happens. And what happens is often unexpected – sometimes beautiful, sometimes strange, but always real.
