Malcolm Goldstein, born on March 27, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American-Canadian violinist, composer, and improviser. He studied composition at Columbia University from 1952 to 1959 under Otto Luening and later took private violin lessons with Antonio Miranda. Goldstein's early career included performances with the Judson Dance Theatre from 1962 to 1964 and appearances at the New York Festival of the Avant Garde. In 1963, he co-founded the Tone Roads Chamber Ensemble with Philip Corner and James Tenney, which remained active until 1970. He has released several albums including Soundings (1980), The Seasons: Vermont (1983), Live at Fire in the Valley (1997), and A Sounding of Sources (2008). Notable collaborations include work with Barre Phillips for Live in Puget-Ville (2006) and Liu Fang on Along the Way (2010). Throughout his career, Goldstein has toured extensively across Europe, Asia, and North America.
