Books on Tape, a one-man electronic and rock act from Los Angeles, California, was formed in 1999 by Todd Drootin. Initially releasing home recordings and demos, Drootin's full-length album Throw Down Your Laptops, issued on Deathbomb Arc in 2002, marked a significant breakthrough with substantial distribution. This was followed by several albums including Books on Tape Sings the Blues (2003) and Dinosaur Dinosaur (2005). After a hiatus from 2006 to 2011, Drootin returned with the EP Still Ride and the full-length album Retired Numbers. The track "Bubblegum (Brian Miller’s Future Tense)" was included on the compilation album Who Shot Ya? in 2006.
