Barbara Lynn Klein, known professionally as Barbi Benton, was born on January 28, 1950, in New York City and raised in Sacramento, California. She began her career as a model before transitioning into music. In 1974, Benton released her debut album Barbi Doll under the Playboy Records label. Her second album, Barbi Benton, included the top-5 hit "Brass Buckles" on Billboard's Hot Country Charts and collaborations with artists like Mickey Gilley. In 1976, she had a significant international success with the single "Ain’t That Just The Way", which topped the charts in Sweden. Benton's 1988 album, Kinetic Voyage, was a mostly instrumental new age album for which Benton composed or co-composed all the songs.
